With the launch of the new Friendship feature last week, new Alolan Forms of Kanto Pokémon began appearing in 7 km eggs obtained from Gift Boxes. The Silph Research Group has been hard at work hatching these new eggs in order to determine their contents and rarity.
After hatching over 400 Alolan Eggs during a controlled experiment involving experienced researcher-walkers, the Silph Research Group came to the following rarity tiers:
|Hatch Rate||Pokémon||Rarity Tier||Hatch Rate|
Interestingly, these eggs appear to be following the same 16:8:4:2:1 weighting system used by normal 2, 5, and 10 km eggs. This means that the exact probability of hatching each of these species is known. Travelers who have already been lucky enough to have hatched a snow-white Alolan Vulpix should thank their lucky stars – these numbers put the hatch rate of this rare new Alolan Pokémon at just 1 in 29!
It’s always exciting when new features are rolled in Pokémon Go, and The Silph Road Research Group is always excited to share with and learn from the community. Those intrepid travelers who would like to join us in our quest to understand the ever-evolving mechanics of Pokémon Go are welcome to join The Silph Research Group and help us gather even more data.
This is an excellent time to join us on the road, pound the pavement and hatch some new Alolan Pokémon, travelers, stay safe out there!

P.S. Thanks to Scientist Titleist12 for running the numbers on our Alolan dataset!
