The Latest Hoenn Egg Pool Removals, Additions, and Rarity Changes

Since the first release of Hoenn species in Pokemon GO, Silph Research Group volunteers have hatched over 9,700 eggs and confirmed several major changes to the hatchable egg pool.

The Gen III species additions shook up the egg pool in several ways. 37 new species have been hatched (and not all new species were Gen 3!) while we also bid farewell to 22 species that are no longer hatching. Rarity tiers have also seen several changes.  Let’s take a look at what’s changed over the past 8 weeks!

INITIAL RELEASE OF GEN III (8 TO 21 DECEMBER 2017)

The first wave of Gen III species hit on December 8th and brought a major shakeup!

Species Removed This Period

The following 11 species were removed from eggs: Aipom, Drowzee*, Marill, Misdreavus, Natu, Qwilfish*, Sableye*, Snubbull, Spinarak, Wooper, and Wobbuffet.

* We did get reports of one Sableye, one Qwilfish, and two Drowzee hatches but they seem to be user errors.

It appears that all other species remained in the same rarity tier as before.

* Our sample size isn’t large enough to be sure about Ponyta’s new rarity, but we can say with certainty that Ponyta’s hatch rate dropped significantly.

HOENN-ONLY EVENT (24 JANUARY 2018 TO 31 JANUARY 2018)

Niantic accompanied the latest release of Gen 3 Pokémon with a special event to only hatch Gen 3 eggs for a week. During this event we found 9 new hatchable species: Aron, Numel, Whismur, Trapinch, Nosepass, Anorith, Lileep, Cacnea, and Baltoy. Due to the short period of the event, we do not have rarity tiers available.

FINAL NOTE

With the end of the Hoenn-only event we observed the return of the other Generations of Pokémon. As promised, we will no longer be waiting for rarity tiers to update our data on eggs! We have updated the Egg Chart on the Silph Road to a tentative list of current hatching species.  With the addition of new species today, keep an eye on the Egg Chart for an update within 48 hours of the change. As data solidifies from the current period’s distribution we will update the site with accurate species and their rarity tiers.

Happy hatching and travel safe!
